Jiu-Jitsu Fundamentals for Kids Using Realistic Applications
West Coast Dojo’s Kids Jiu-Jitsu program is for ages 7 thru 14 and meets twice a week on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:00 to 6:00 pm.
Jiu-Jitsu means “Gentle Art” in the way that it is supposed to yield to the opponent’s force and use that against them.
The art uses methods to block, redirect, deflect, or pass by attacks, taking the opponents balance and sending them to the ground.
Jiu-Jitsu also focuses on ground control where there are many methods to pin, control, and submit the opponent.
The 5 principals of we teach in Kids Jiu Jitsu are:
- Utilize the opponent’s strength to your advantage
- Attack the opponent’s weakness
How will my child benefit from the Kids Jiu Jitsu Program?
Jiu-Jitsu is an extremely useful art when it comes to confrontations and close quarter combat.
While most fights start with two people standing up, about 80% end up with one or both people on the ground.
In Kids Jiu-Jitsu students learn how to properly handle each situation whether standing up or on the ground.
Jiu-Jitsu also develops core strength, body intelligence, and muscle memory.
Jiu-Jitsu is self-defense centered, some other martial arts have changed over the years to focus more on the sports element. Your child will benefit from this program but learning how to effectively defend themselves if need be.
The Kids Jiu Jitsu class focuses on 5 basic training areas:
- Ukemi – The art of falling
- Atemi – Vital point striking
- Nage Waza- Throwing techniques
- Kime-no-kata – Forms of self-defense
- Randori – Grappling from the ground or stand up
