Why Should Your Child Study Karate?
Karate-do is not only a martial art but also a life philosophy. Karate begins and ends with courtesy. This is not only true inside the dojo, but it carries over into our everyday lives. Students are expected to follow the rules, show respect others, take responsibility for their own actions, and set a positive example for others.
At West Coast Dojo karate students will learn how to defend themselves. We teach our students here is no “first strike” in Karate, and the techniques they learn should only be used for self-defense purposes, or against an immediate threat that wishes to cause them physical harm.
According to experts, karate and other martial arts may have many benefits for your child including improving social skills, self-confidence, an increase in gross motor skills abilities and improvements in concentration. Starting martial arts as a child can help set the foundation for a lifetime of fitness and overall better health.
Okinawan Shuri-Ryu Karate-do
West Coast Dojo teaches Okinawan Shuri-Ryu Karate-do, which is an American style created by O’sensei Robert Trias. Shuri-Ryu uses elements and principals taught in Shuri-te, Naha-te, Tsing Yi, Kung Fu, and other martial arts combined into one unique system.
