Muay Thai at West Coast Dojo Sarasota
West Coast Dojo’s Muay Thai program is taught by certified instructor Shihan Steve Schwartz, an official member of the United States Muay Thai Association, as well as Mr. Jacob Croker.
Classes include instruction on various Muay Thai techniques, developing strategies for attack and defense, and conditioning of the body for blows and impacts.
What is Muay Thai?
Muay Thai is the national sport of Thailand and is popular in many Southeast Asian countries. The ancient form of this style, known as Muay Boran (a collective term), was developed in Siam for use militarily and as a form of self-defense and was developed for close combat.
Unlike Savate or kickboxing which uses only fists and feet, this style utilizes 8 points of the body. It is also referred to as the “Science of Eight Limbs” or “Art of Eight Limbs” because fists, elbows, feet, knees, shins/feet are all used.
Muay Thai translated into English means Thai Boxing. It has gained notoriety internationally in the last two decades, as well as in the United States. Thai boxing has gained popularity among professional MMA fighters, many believe it to be the most effective striking art for MMA.
